10 Ways to Decorate a Website for Christmas

When it comes to Christmas plenty of people seem to go all out  with their decorating. The front of the house is completely covered in flahing lights and Santa stop here signs. A huge tree takes up a corner of a room and there's tinsel everywhere.

For those of us who have small flats or even just rent a room, it can difficult to know how to decorate for Christmas. There isn't much room for a tree, and if you're renting a place you might not be able to hang much from the walls.

1. Get a festive tablecloth

If you have a kitchen table, or if you have a desk in your room then a Christmassy tablecloth will give your home a nice pop of festive colour.  Some cheap ones can look too tacky to have in your home for a month, but a plain red or lightly decorated one can look great.

2. Have a half-tree

If you don't have room for a full Christmas tree in your home, many places now sell artificial flat backed Christmas trees, that can go flat against a wall and save space.

You can even get these amazing upside down corner trees, which take up unneeded ceiling space while keeping the floor clear.

3. Be creative with your fairy light placement

Having fairy lights around your bedroom is very trendy at the moment. If you don't have space for a tree and can't hang them on the walls, why not try draping them over furniture, keeping them in jars, or using cardboard to make marquee signs. Strings of fairy lights attached to battery packs can be found in the shops, so you don't need to worrry abot keeping them near a plug socket

You can get them in pine or plastic, plain or decorated. Hanging a wreath may be a way to get some Chrismas green into your house without taking up too much space. If you're not fond of the pine look, you can find them made from other materials, like baubles or pinecones.

If you can't hang them on the wall, you can put them on a bookcase or chest of drawers instead.

5. Make a Bauble Bowl

A small bubble of festivity, you could easily keep one on a coffee table, kitchen counter, or any flat space. A clear bowl, a box of Christmas decorations and a string of lights is all you need.

6. Keep pine clippings around the house

Nothing says Christmas quite like the smell of pine, and many places that sell Christmas trees with give clippings away for free. Kept in a jar of water they can last for quite a while.

7. Project a tree onto the wall

Artist Adam Frank makes this amazing LUMEN lamps, available in oil and LED versions that project a shadow of a tree onto the wall. The pine one is the most festive, but the whole range is amazing.

You could possibly make your own with a strong LED and  some cardboard, but the lamps are beautiful art pieces even when they aren't lit.

8. Scented Candles

While visuals are nice, you can decorate for Christmas with all your senses. Whether your favourite christmas scent is peppermint, pine or gingerbread spices, there's a candle for that.

9. Make a tabletop vignette

If you have a small table that holds nothing but clutter or you have a patch of empty space on a sideboard this could be your Christmas decoration area. More religious people might put a nativity scene, and others could put baubles, pine sprigs and small snowman or Santa figures.

10. Make your tree as flat as possible

Don't even have room for half a tree? These wall trees might do the trick. If you're not allowed to hang things from the wall, you could use a pole display stand pressed against the wall to keep it held up. They'd also work attached to a noticeboard or wardrobe door.
