Anti-aging Skin Care Not Tested on Animals
.

What does vegan skincare mean?
For a skincare product to be classified as vegan, it cannot contain any animal-derived ingredients, such as honey, collagen, beeswax or keratin. In fact, brands even create man-made versions of these key ingredients as an animal-friendly solution.
To avoid the greenwashing that arises with similar beauty movements such as "clean" and "natural", you can look out for The Vegan Society, PETA or Vegan Action logo, which certifies that a product is vegan.
In order to be able to display the logo, a product cannot contain any animal by-products and is usually also free from other ingredients such as parabens, sulphates, artificial colouring and silicones.
Note, a brand can still be vegan and not certified (as it can be expensive to buy the logo), so a product may simply say it's vegan on the packaging. If in doubt, always check the ingredients list.
What's the difference between cruelty-free and vegan?
The two normally go hand in hand, but not always, so it's important to understand the difference.
While the term vegan refers to a product's ingredients being free from animal by-products, cruelty-free means a product hasn't been tested on animals at any point in the development process.
To check if your skincare products are cruelty-free, look out for the Leaping Bunny logo or go directly to the website to see a list of beauty brands that are all approved.
How we test
Our panel of 270 testers tried 19 vegan face creams for a period of one month to see how effective they were at targeting the signs of ageing.
They assessed how well each cream improved fine lines, wrinkles, age spots, pigmentation, elasticity and firmness, as well as how easy each product was to apply and use, and whether it had any impact on skin texture or radiance.
To be included in our roundup, brands had to either be certified vegan or have a vegan-friendly ingredients list.
