After updating to iOS 9, many users are experiencing problems while trying to sign in to iCloud and restore from their backups. The problem is not a forgotten/wrong password or username. Even the login credentials are 100% accurate, the following error shows up whenever users are trying to sign in to iCloud.

"Verification failed: There was an error connecting to the Apple ID Server."

If you are experiencing this problem, here is how to fix it.

Method #1 Update Time and Date

Make sure the Time and Date set correctly.

  1. Go to Settings > General > Date & Time.
  2. Turn on the toggle Set Automatically, and make sure you have chosen the right time zone.

Method #2 Sign Out from iTunes & App Store

  1. Launch the Settings app, and open iTunes & App Stores (even if you have a problem while signing in iCloud.
  2. Tap on your Apple ID at the top, and a pop-up window will appear.
  3. Choose sign out from that window.
  4. Once it sings you out, sign back in.

Now, go to iCloud and try signing in again.

Method #3 Use a Wi-Fi connection

When trying to log into your iCloud, make sure you are using a Wi-Fi connection. Many users reported that switching from 3G/4G data to Wi-Fi fixed this verification problem. Also, make sure your VPN is turned off. (Settings > VPN Toggle OFF)

Method # 4 Log out and Log into Your Wi-Fi

If the previous method didn't solve your problem, try this one.

  1. Go to Settings > WiFi.
  2. Tap the info button next to your Wi-Fi network, and tap on Forget This Network.
    Clicking on the "info" button
  3. Select Forget when prompted to confirm your action.
  4. Now turn off your WiFi, wait a couple of seconds, and turn it back on.
  5. When the Wi-Fi networks show up, tap on the same network
  6. Type the WiFi password (if required), and log in

After you finish with these steps, go back to iCloud and try signing in again.

Method #5 Reset Network Settings

Still, have the same problem? Try resetting iPhone network settings.

Note: This procedure will NOT delete any data from your phone memory. It will only delete your Wi-Fi passwords and network settings.

  1. Go to Settings > General.
    Clicking on General
  2. Scroll down to the bottom, and select the Reset section.
  3. Now, choose Reset Network Settings. (Enter your passcode if required.)
  4. Confirm your action by tapping Reset Network Settings on the pop-up dialog box.

Method #6 Change Your Apple ID Password

If your password is "old," it may not meet Apple's recommendations for strength. And, that may be the cause for the verification problem. Luckily, you can change it on any device with an internet connection.

  1. Go to the Apple ID website (appleid.apple.com).
  2. Click on Manage your Apple ID and sign in with your account.
  3. Now, enter your Apple ID and Password.
  4. Click on Password and Security located in the left menu.
  5. Answer your security questions to verify your identity. (You can also enter the code that Apple sends to your mobile device.)
  6. Now, click Change Password, and a new page will open up.
  7. Enter your current (old) password, and choose a new one. (You will need to type the new password twice to verify.)
  8. Once the page accepts it, you will need to update it on all your iDevices.

Now you should be able to log into your iCloud using any iDevice.

Method #7 Force Restart

If nothing works, try force restarting your iDevice. If you are not familiar with the Forced Restart procedure, you can find how to perform it on your specific device by following the first solution in this article.

Method #8 Using Verification Code

In some cases, the iPhone might not be able to properly sync in with your Apple id due to which this issue is being triggered. Therefore, in this step, we will be using a verification code to confirm our login. For that:

  1. Sign in with your Apple ID on any other iPhone.
  2. Go to "Settings" and then into "iCloud".
    Clicking on the "iCloud" option
  3. Select "Password and Security" and then click on the "Generate Verification Code".
  4. Now, enter this verification code into the iPhone with the error to fix it completely.
  5. Also, if you have installed any VPNs, OpenDNS or Cisco Umbrella on your device, uninstall them completely because they can prevent you from connecting to Apple Servers.
